begin the begin

your first assignment is to react to someone's presentation today, Tuesday September 4th, and post an idea/image/observation. you can suggest artists and artworks that person might want to look at, offer other research possibilities, or talk about what their project makes you think/imagine/do. or you can simply challenge them to a mud-wrestling contest.
blogs should be posted by end of day (say 8PM) on Thursday.

Upon finishing our discussion today in class I think that there are many great ideas and concepts that have been brought to light. I think it was Laura who was trying to break away from her work with cells ( in which I vividly remember her green cells taking over that wall in wilmington, very impressive), and going towards sculpture intertwined with functionality. I feel as though there is a ton of potential here, and in exploring it further I found some neat things that might spark some interest

If you're thinking of going the interior design direction for grad, then this idea of functionality within artistic means is a great start.

This one is to Joe;

The human body is a great source for any project esp. art and 3-D related ones.
It is not a cop-out to do work based on your or someone else's body, or just a body in general.
The artist I was describing in class is Antony Gormley.

His work in the Hayward Gallery in London, while being just a liiiiiittle bit vain, is based primarily around his body and is pretty impressive. If you want to continue to work around the human form, check out his work and it might take you in the direction you were looking to go in.
